REFLECTING ON THE EXPERIENCE

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

4/22/20- It's hard to believe how far we've come since setting our group goal to become certified rock climbers. Just 14 weeks ago, we were all complete strangers and had no idea about the story we would now be able to tell. While the initial stages of our experience are over, this is just the beginning!

ABBY

This experience ROCKED! It was overwhelming and daunting, but also fun and relaxing, mainly due to my teammates who made me share many laughs. I’ve already learned much more through my short rock climbing career than I ever thought I would. Rock climbing is all about skill, safety, risks, and community. It is so much more than a quick activity people can pay to do every couple of years. I hadn’t realized how dedicated some climbers are to the activity or how large the “climbing community” is. There is something that bonds you together with the people you climb around because climbing isn’t easy! These other climbers provide you with support both physically and mentally. It’s also just a unique environment to be in, and I am glad I got to experience it with my Climbing Crew!

JESSICA

My experience with getting rock climbing certified was full of fear, laughter and new adventures. It was such a special experience to learn a new activity with almost strangers! Rock climbing is such a fun way to build your strength while hanging out with friends. I would recommend this to anyone who has any ounce of fear about it because you will be so glad you conquered one of your fears!

JAY

Overall, my full rock climbing experience was way better than I thought it would be. Learning the basics and actually applying the skills after the fact made the experience pretty cool for me. On top of that, having a team that is fun and not scared to talk to each other makes these type of projects or assignments way better. Doing this with people that are going to enjoy what they are doing with each other is what it is all about. Also, shout out to Abby for officially giving us the cool name of the Climbing Crew and I am thankful for being apart of this team!

MADDY

I’m not going to sugar coat this experience was all fun and games, I was terrified to follow through with the climbing certification process. I don’t know why I was so scared but I can now say that I am so happy we got to get certified together. I think more students should get certified, climbing is a great way to get exercise while also being around your friends! I look up to people that climb on the daily because it is a lot of hard work but it ends up being so satisfying. I’m so thankful for this team and experience!

AUNI

This experience was so much fun! Not only learning how to climb and being able to get certified but making new friends and being able to work and collaborate our ideas together. I like how each one of our team members brings something different to help each other out, to joking around, working hard, or being accountable and joining zoom calls. Everyone always has their work done and on time! Being with any other group or team I feel like we would be behind. Not these guys, they all know how to work hard. I’m going to miss these guys when this class is over. I’m so happy to have fun and enjoy this weird semester with this group and Rock Climbing.
